AWARDS

    CASK MARQUE

First presented to George Sourbutts and Ian Jolly for their quality of Real Ale in 2001. This award is given out for consistently achieving Cask Marque’s award criteria. This is set by the following; Temperature, Aroma, Appearance and Taste and is assessed by their own assessors twice a year. This award has been maintained since we first achieved it and is a benchmark on what standard of real ale we serve. We were the first in Southport to be accredited and maintained it every year since!

SIBA MERIT AWARDS (2004 & 2005)

This was presented to us by The Small Independent Breweries Association (SIBA) for hosting their annual conference and beer competition at the hotel. It recognises our efforts for promoting smaller breweries and their beers.

This award was presented to the Barons bar in August 2004 and in September 2006 in recognition for our services to Real Ale. A regular in the Good Beer Guide, adventurous in our purchasing policy of beer and supportive of CAMRA and its campaigns.

CAMRA – PUB OF EXCELLENCE 2004

This award was presented to us by David Williams (Southport & District CAMRA Chairman) at the Sandgrounder Beer Festival in September 2004. As the award suggests, it is for continual excellence throughout the year. One, of only a few pubs in the Southport area to receive this.

    GOOD BEER GUIDE

We have entries in 2001/2002/2003/2004/2005/2006/2008/2009 and 2010 editions. To be in the guide the local CAMRA branch (Southport & District) upon visiting the bar will score and this eventually goes to the final voting. The guide is used by many as constant travel companion.

    CAMRA – PUB OF THE YEAR 2005, 2008 & 2009

In May 2005 at the end of our annual beer festival, we were presented with the coveted title of Pub of the Year (POTY), no jokes that we are now pot(t)y trained ! I am sure this award speaks for its self, but in summary we are judged against some of the best pubs in the local area. This is one of our proudest achievements. We also  have recieved this prestigous award again in 2008 & 2009, and is testiment to the hard work of everyone involved with the Barons bar.
